I Know a Highwheeler in Tamaqua

Donald Serfass and I hung around together as kids. We had a group of kids that used to pal around. On my recent trip home, I was pleasantly surprised when I ran into Donald at a Heritage Days Festival. Donald gave us a personal demonstration of his new hobby....highwheeling. It is extremely difficult and dangerous. Donald's picture is above and this link will take you to their web site.

I think it is great!

WE HAVE CLASS - TAMAQUA AREA HIGH SCHOOL CLASS

OF 1972

On my recent trip to Pa. I was blessed to have the opportunity to get together with several classmates. Some of them also came to my surprise party. Every time I go home many of us try to meet. It is so good to be able to keep good friends close to your heart and....no matter how long it has been....we just pick up where we left off. There are no fancy airs with us as we respect and love each other as these were our first friends in life. School was an amazing time and it is important to us to keep in touch.

This is me at the Historical Society Museum standing in front of a Drum and Bugle Corp uniform that I wore in Junior and Senior High. I actually played the drums so this was it to a tee. Yes...white majorette boots and all!

Classmates left to right: Debbie Meredith, Diane Martin, Nancy Fenstermacher, my friend Barb from Florida, Linda Weaver, Barb Koch, me and David Burrell. I walked with David at graduation.

GIRL'S TRIP ONLY....NO MEN MAY APPLY!

On October 9th, my friend Barbara and I traveled to Baltimore, Maryland where we met up with my childhood friend, Nancy. My birthday is October 13th and this was a birthday trip from my children. I hadn't spent my birthday in my hometown of Tamaqua, Pa. since I was 17. We spent two days with Nancy and on the 10th, she took us on a tour of Washington, D.C. and Arlington National Cemetery. We thoroughly enjoyed it and the weather was great. We visited the Smithsonian as well.

On October 11th, Nancy drove us to Lancaster, Pa. where we met my brother, Jay and his wife, Rosie at the Shady Maple...a very good restaurant. We then went to Intercourse, Pa. and neighboring places and enjoyed a day in Amish Country. At the end of the day, we drove to Brockton, Pa....just outside of Tamaqua, where my brother lives.

We stayed in the Tamaqua area until October 18th when we drove back to Baltimore and flew home. During our stay we did a lot of traveling to different areas such as the Poconos and Jim Thorpe. We went to an auction, visited with family and classmates and attended the surprise birthday party that I wrote about below.

The weather was wonderful and our trip was fantastic! Go to the link below for more pictures!

Beautiful Fall Foliage shows God's Paint Brush

Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the colors and smells....leaves burning...cool weather...it is a wonderful time of year.

This year I was lucky enough to visit Pa. at the peak fall time period. Please go to the link below and I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I did. You will see several reflective pictures that were taken on top of a coal bank that we climbed.

Many of the pictues look like God loaded a paintbrush and just swung it at the canvas.

They Pulled One Over On Me!

For my birthday this year I came home to Tamaqua, Pa. It was a girl trip as my friend Barbara and myself flew to Baltimore to meet up with my friend Nancy. We stayed with Nancy for two days and even got to see Washington, D.C. which I had never seen.

On Saturday, Nancy drove us to Intercourse, Pa. where we met up with my brother, Jay and his wife Rosie and spent the day in Amish Country before traveling to Tamaqua.

On Sunday, the family threw a surprise birthday party with 69 friends and family. On top of that, they had my friend, Marcie, in a blond wig taking tickets at the door (I was supposed to be going to a spaghetti dinner). Marcie flew up from Florida to surprise me and my dear friends, Larry and Jean drove from New York. Classmates, family and friends attended and I can honestly say that I am STILL stunned! What a wonderful time we all had and I am ever so grateful.

Below is some of the video that my brother took. How embarassing!

Alex and Uncle Danny Swim

Last weekend Danny and Alex went swimming. Alex really loves to be in the pool and is great about going under the water. Here are two pictures and a video of them.

Company from up North

My childhood friend, Nancy had a conference in Ft. Lauderdale last week so she came down to spend a few days at our home. Nancy's friend, Elaine, also came with her. We had a great time even though I had to work because I go on vacation this week. While they were here we celebrated our son, Danny's, 32nd birthday. Nancy is his Godmother. We also went to Schnebly's Winery and enjoyed a casual afternoon. Here are some pictures.
